Successful IVF Treatment: YOU Made It Happen
A quick update from the world of #HEALing Teddi. We have been able to successfully harvest and fertilise five eggs from the remaining portion of Teddi’s left ovary! We are THRILLED to have been able to fit this in before Teddi’s surgery date.
As you know from previous posts, Teddi’s left ovary is at high risk of being removed during her peritonectomy surgery. In fact, an unofficial poll of PMP survivors shows that most women undergo a full hysterectomy in the treatment of this cancer. So please send up plenty of prayers for Teddi that she is an exception to such experiences.
This process involved two weeks of a hormonal roller coaster filled with lovely daily injections, all ending in a general anaesthesia procedure where they harvest matured eggs from the ovarian follicles. Teddi was amazing through it all, and I am so thankful for her making it possible for us to have future children!
Now I have one more group of people to thank: ALL OF YOU!
At a cost of over $10,000, none of which our insurance covers (makes me wish I had Australian Medicare!), we certainly would have had to take out a loan to pay for the procedure. But since you all ran, cricketed, ate, raffled, sang, punted and #LOVEd on Teddi – we had the support we needed to make sure cancer doesn’t steal our dreams of growing our family or send us into crippling debt.
From the deepest, most sincere part of my soul – Thank you.
We would also like to show our gratitude to the Canberra Fertility Centre and to Dr. Bronwyn Devine for making this happen for us! You came highly recommended and did not disappoint.
