Adipeau Review: My 3-Month Vectra Scanner Before & After Results for Facial Volume, Firmness & Reduced Sagging

Adipeau self experiment with before and after results by Nick from A Longer Life

When I first learned about Adipeau and its targeted approach to restoring facial volume by working directly with the skin’s own dermal fat cells, I was intrigued but skeptical. Most skincare products focus on surface-level concerns like wrinkles or texture, yet one of the biggest reasons our faces start to look older is the gradual loss of volume and firmness beneath the skin.

As we age, the small fat cells (dermal adipocytes) that sit just below the surface and surround hair follicles can become inflamed, oversized, or diminish in healthy numbers. This leads to sagging along the jawline and cheeks, flattened contours, and an overall hollow or tired appearance.

Adipeau takes a different path. Its formulas, including the Strong Body Gel I tested, use Kaempferia parviflora extract and supporting plant oils to help shrink dysfunctional mature fat cells while supporting the formation and health of new, smaller ones. The goal is to rebuild the natural structural “cushion” that keeps the face lifted and contoured from within.

This Adipeau review shares the full protocol I followed to test the product on myself. At this stage, I am 3 months into a 6-month self-experiment with the Strong Body Gel. To document any changes, I used a Vectra volumetric scanner to capture measurable gains in facial volume, improved firmness, and reduced sagging. At this “midway point” encouraging early signs that align with the science are already quite clear.

The Vectra volumetric scans showed structural changes that most topical treatments don't even begin to address.

This article shares the full protocol, the science of targeting dermal adipocytes, detailed 3-month Vectra results, a thorough ingredient analysis, and my current thoughts. I'll provide a full six-month update once the experiment completes. Ivan Galanin, Adipeau's CEO and Founder, noted in our 1:1 interview that that peak structural results often require this approximate timeframe.

What Is Adipeau and Why Dermal Fat Cells Matter for a Youthful Face

Traditional anti-aging skincare focuses heavily on collagen, UV repair, or surface hydration. Adipeau takes a different, structural approach by targeting dermal white adipose tissue. These are the small fat cells associated with hair follicles that provide essential volume, cushioning, and firmness to the skin.

With age, these dermal fat cells can become inflamed, enlarged (hypertrophic), or decline in healthy numbers. The result is loss of facial volume, sagging along the jawline and cheeks, flattened contours, and an older-looking facial shape. This is why you can have ‘young skin’ but and an ‘old looking face’ if your skincare protocol doesn’t address this root issue.

Adipeau's formulas aim to:

  • Shrink dysfunctional, pro-inflammatory mature fat cells

  • Support the proliferation and health of new, smaller, more efficient adipocytes

  • Restore the natural "structural scaffolding" that keeps the face lifted and contoured

This makes Adipeau highly complementary (not competitive) with other products I've reviewed:

You can achieve smooth, repaired skin on top of a volume-depleted, sagging face. Addressing the fat cell layer helps maintain a truly youthful facial structure.

The Science Behind Adipeau – Kaempferia Parviflora and Fat Cell Health

The star ingredient in Adipeau products is Kaempferia parviflora rhizome extract, also known as Thai black ginger. The active compounds in this extract — called polymethoxyflavones or PMFs — have been studied for their effects on the skin’s deeper fat layer.

In simple terms, as we age, the small fat cells (called dermal adipocytes) that sit just beneath the skin and help keep our face plump and lifted start to behave badly. Some become inflamed and swollen, while the skin produces fewer healthy new ones. This contributes to loss of volume, sagging, and a flatter, older-looking facial shape.

According to the research on these PMFs, they work in several helpful ways:

  • They help reduce inflammation and improve the energy production (mitochondrial function) inside dermal cells, creating a healthier environment overall.

  • They promote a better balance in the size of fat cells — moving away from a few very large, dysfunctional ones toward a healthier mix of properly sized cells.

  • They support the creation and growth of new healthy fat cells while gently encouraging the oversized, problematic mature fat cells to shrink back down to a more normal, efficient size.

Think of the fat layer in your face like a mattress. Over time some of the internal springs become overstretched and lumpy, and the body stops replacing them with fresh ones. Adipeau’s key ingredient helps by encouraging the production of strong new springs and shrinking the old, worn-out lumpy ones — restoring better support and contour from within.

Adipeau pairs this Thai black ginger extract with long-chain fatty acids (LCFAs) from plant oils such as safflower, sunflower, and macadamia. These oils help carry the active ingredients deeper into the skin via the hair follicle pathways and support the full cycle of healthy fat cell regeneration.

This mechanism works at a deeper structural level than surface peptides or light therapies alone. For more technical details and the research background, refer back to the full interview article with Ivan Galanin.

Understanding the Vectra H1 – The 3D Imaging System I Used

To track real structural changes in my face — not just surface texture or color — I used the Vectra H1, a portable handheld 3D imaging system from Canfield Scientific. This is the exact device my skincare specialist used for my scans.

Unlike regular photos or even high-resolution 2D scanners, the Vectra H1 creates a precise, rotatable three-dimensional model of your face. Here’s how it works in simple terms:

The handheld camera uses advanced stereophotogrammetry — basically taking multiple images from slightly different angles at the same time, similar to how your eyes work together to perceive depth. My specialist took three quick facial captures (front and two angled views), which the software automatically stitches together into one accurate 3D image in seconds. The entire capture happens extremely fast — in just 2 milliseconds — so there’s no blurring from movement.

Once the 3D model is built, the analysis software lets you:

  • Measure volume differences with a single click (e.g., how much fuller the cheeks or mid-face have become)

  • Generate color-coded distance maps that show exactly where the face has lifted, filled out, or reduced in sagging — green or warm tones often highlight positive volume gains, while cooler tones show areas of compression or lift

  • Evaluate contours in “gray mode” (removing skin color so you can focus purely on shape and structure)

  • Quantify soft tissue changes like stretch, compression, lift, and volumization without needing markers on the skin

This makes the Vectra H1 particularly valuable for products like Adipeau that target deeper dermal fat cells and facial structure. It reveals objective, measurable shifts in volume and firmness that flat before-and-after photos simply can’t capture reliably.

In my case, the color-coded maps from the Vectra H1 scans made it easy to see the early gains in mid-face projection and reduced sagging after three months of using the Strong Body Gel (scroll down for the results analysis).

My Adipeau Testing Protocol

I ran this self-experiment with the Adipeau Strong Body Gel only (no Volume Cream in this protocol - I may add it in the future, and I like to keep things simple). Testing began in late 2025, with the 3-month midway Vectra assessment completed in late February. Six month final update coming ~June 2026.

Application details:

  • Evening routine on clean, dry skin

  • Generous quarter-sized dollop (about the size of a 25-cent coin) gently massaged thoroughly into the skin and given a few minutes to fully absorb

  • Focused application: underneath the eyes, along the cheekbones, down to just above the mouth on both cheeks, with any excess wiped onto the neck

  • If using my Bon Charge red light therapy mask that evening, I applied the gel afterwards,

  • Otherwise, simply applied after washing my face and allowed full absorption time before bed

I kept other variables consistent (sun protection, sleep, diet, and layering with my usual routine) to isolate effects, following the same disciplined approach as my OneSkin and Young Goose experiments.

Primary measurement: Vectra volumetric scans at baseline, 3 months, and (upcoming) 6 months.

3-Month Vectra Results – Volumetric Gains, Firmness & Reduced Sagging

Adipeau before and after image - right side of face volume improvement

The image presented here is a composite of the before and after (three months) vectra scans. Blue areas are highlighting where volume was added between the two scans, while orange/yellow shows where it is lost. You can ignore the hairline, chin and neck as these changes are due to slight differences in my facial hair. Where we are looking for changes is in the region bounded by the dotted line (where the volume changes were calculated).

The 3-month Vectra scans delivered encouraging structural improvements focused on facial volume restoration, firmness, and reduction in sagging which are precisely the areas the dermal fat cell mechanism targets.

From the March 2025 analysis:

  • Noticeable gains in mid-face and cheek volume, contributing to a fuller, more lifted appearance with +2.6 cubic centimeters of volume added in the bounded left cheek region, and +1.7 cubic centimeters on the right

  • Reduced sagging along the jawline and nasolabial regions, with improved contour definition

  • Overall better facial shape and projection in key areas, visible in the color-coded difference maps

In short, this is three-dimensional volume changes, specifically showing that the cheek structure is filling back in, leading to a younger looking face overall.

These changes reflect healthier dermal fat cell dynamics providing internal structural support. Because the Vectra measures true 3D volume and contours (not surface metrics like those from Visia), the results highlight shifts that photos alone often miss.

I'll share the complete 6-month Vectra data and final analysis once the protocol concludes in the coming months…

Potential yellow flags

(minor, for thoroughness):

  • Dimethicone and related silicones: Common in gels for texture and occlusion; generally considered safe and non-comedogenic for most people, but a small subset with very sensitive or acne-prone skin may prefer silicone-free options. They do not penetrate deeply and are easily removed with cleansing.

  • Carbomer and synthetic thickeners/emulsifiers (e.g., Laureth-7, Polysorbate 20): Standard, low-concentration ingredients with excellent safety profiles in cosmetic databases. No known major toxicity concerns at these levels.

  • Preservatives (Sodium Benzoate, Phenethyl Alcohol, Ethylhexylglycerin): Effective and widely used; Phenethyl Alcohol is naturally derived and gentle. No formaldehyde releasers or harsh alternatives.

  • Beeswax (in some formulations): Natural but could be a concern for strict vegans.

Overall, the formula scores well for simplicity, natural-leaning actives, and low irritation potential. It has a light natural scent from botanical extracts (no added fragrance). Suitable for most skin types, but always patch-test new products. No major red flags for safety in standard cosmetic use.

What Didn't Change (and Why It Matters)

At the three-month mark, the improvements remained focused on volumetric structure and contour. I did not observe major shifts in surface-level metrics (e.g., pigmentation, pores, or texture tracked separately with other tools). This specificity is reassuring, mainly that the results align closely with the intended dermal fat cell mechanism rather than broad claims.

The Bottom Line – Is Adipeau Worth It?

Three months into the protocol with the Strong Body Gel, the Vectra results are surprisingly strong and I'm very encouraged by the visible structural improvements in volume and firmness.

That said, I will withhold my final verdict until the full six-month protocol is complete and analyzed. Structural changes like these often build gradually, and Ivan Galanin indicated the most meaningful outcomes typically appear around that timeframe.

The broader point of this Adipeau review (and all my self-experimentation) is to show you a transparent process you can adapt for yourself. What works well for my face and measurement tools may differ for yours, which is exactly why objective tracking and personal testing matter in longevity skincare.

If you're noticing early loss of facial volume or sagging despite solid routines with OneSkin, Young Goose, or red light, Adipeau's focus on the fat cell layer offers a complementary tool worth considering.

FAQ

Q: How is Adipeau different from other anti-aging skincare products I've tried, like OneSkin or Young Goose?

A: Most products I’ve tested focus on the skin’s surface — repairing the barrier (OneSkin), reversing UV damage (Young Goose with photolyase enzymes), or boosting collagen via red light. Adipeau works deeper by targeting the dermal fat cells that provide structural volume and firmness. In my experiment, this translated to measurable volumetric changes and reduced sagging on the Vectra scanner — something the other products don’t directly address. It’s highly complementary rather than competitive.

Q: Which Adipeau product did you use in your review, and why only one?

A: I tested the Adipeau Strong Body Gel exclusively on my face and neck for this 3-month self-experiment. I applied a generous quarter-sized dollop each evening on clean skin (or after serums), focusing on the cheeks, under the eyes, cheekbones, jawline, and nasolabial areas, then wiped any excess onto my neck. If I was doing red light therapy that night, I applied the gel first and let it absorb before the mask session. I plan to continue through six months before deciding whether to introduce the Volume Cream.

Q: How should I apply the Strong Body Gel for best results?

A: Based on my protocol and Adipeau’s guidance, apply it as the last step in your evening routine on clean or post-serum skin. Use a generous amount (roughly a quarter-sized dollop for the full face and neck) and gently spread it with your fingers so it can travel down the hair follicles. Let it absorb for about 5 minutes — any light residual can stay as a protective layer. Avoid rubbing it in aggressively. Apply before sunscreen in the morning if you use it then. Consistency is key; I saw the first structural improvements on the Vectra at the 3-month mark.

Q: How long until I see results with Adipeau?

A: In my case, the Vectra scanner showed encouraging gains in mid-face volume, firmness, and reduced sagging after three months. Ivan Galanin mentioned that fuller structural results often take around six months, which is why I’m continuing the experiment and will share the final update here. Results depend on your starting point — weaker or more sagging skin may respond noticeably within 4–8 weeks as the dermal fat cells strengthen.

Q: Can I combine Adipeau Strong Body Gel with red light therapy, OneSkin, or Young Goose?

A: Yes — that’s exactly how I’m using it. I apply the gel first in the evening, allow absorption, then do my red light mask if it’s part of that night’s routine. It layers well after OneSkin (for barrier support) or alongside Young Goose protocols. Just keep Adipeau as one of the final active steps before sunscreen in the morning. The structural fat-cell focus makes it an excellent addition to routines that already handle UV repair and cellular health.

Q: Are there any ingredients in the Strong Body Gel I should be concerned about?

A: I did a thorough review of the full ingredient list. The formula is generally clean and focuses on botanicals like Kaempferia parviflora (the key active), macadamia oil, cucumber extract, and gentle humectants. Minor yellow flags include dimethicone (a common silicone for texture — safe for most but some very sensitive or acne-prone skin types prefer to avoid it) and standard preservatives like sodium benzoate. No parabens, sulfates, or strong fragrances. It has a light natural scent from botanicals. I experienced no irritation, but always patch-test new products.

Q: What doesn’t Adipeau do, or what should I not expect?

A: Like my other experiments, the results are specific. At three months I saw clear volumetric and contour improvements on the Vectra, but no major changes in pigmentation, pores, or fine lines (those are better addressed with Young Goose or OneSkin). It’s not a quick-fix plumper or resurfacer — it works gradually on the underlying structure. This specificity is actually reassuring because the changes align with the intended mechanism.

Q: Can I use the Strong Body Gel on other areas of the body?

A: Yes. While my experiment focused on the face and neck, the gel is designed for areas needing strength and firmness, such as the jawline, neck, arms, or anywhere experiencing loss of elasticity. Many users apply it to the body twice daily for consistent strengthening.

Q: Is Adipeau suitable for sensitive skin or all skin types?

A: In my experience it was very well tolerated with no redness or irritation. The formula is minimalist and non-comedogenic for most people. However, everyone’s skin is different — that’s why I always recommend starting with a small area and tracking your own results objectively (photos, measurements, or professional scans like Vectra if possible).

Q: Where can I buy Adipeau and is there a discount?

A: You can purchase the Strong Body Gel (and Volume Cream) directly from Adipeau’s website. Check my latest newsletter or the product links in this article for any current reader discounts or bundles. As always with my reviews, I only share products I’ve personally tested and found interesting.
